Conference and Membership Update

- The Annual F.A.C.E. Education and Training Seminar is June 19-22 at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens.

- Scholarship applications are available in the INTERFACE and must be returned to the UCF/IOG by May 1st.

- The Joseph V Huskey Award Nominations are also due by May 1^st and more info is available in the INTERFACE.

- If you are interested in running for one of the F.A.C.E. Board of Director position, please contact Frank Cassidy, the current Past President.

- Voting for Officers will take place in June at the Annual Education and Training Seminar on Thursday, June 21, between 3:30-4:40. If you are a voting Delegate you must submit a Delegate form to our Sergeant-at-Arms, Sam Sullivan. Again the form and info are available in the March INTERFACE.

- June 4-8 is Code Enforcement Officer’s Appreciation Week. A sample proclamation is available in the INTERFACE.

Polk Association of Code Enforcement offers seminar

The Polk Association of Code Enforcement is hosting a seminar on Chemical Suicide Awareness and how to handle the situation. This is a growing problem in our society and we want to share the information with all who are interested especially first responders and field personnel.

A Time for Reflection

As this year comes to a close, many of us will gather with friends and families to enjoy all the various holiday festivities and traditions. If you’re traveling during this season please be safe and know we look forward to your return. As you look back on the year remember those you have helped through education and personal interaction. The important work you do on a daily basis helps to build better communities.

As we prepare for the new year, I fear it will continue to be one with more financial challenges. I encourage each of you to start each day with a positive attitude and a fresh look. Attitude is very contagious and impacts those with whom you contact, both co-workers and customers alike; make sure it is a positive, encouraging, and helpful experience. Multi-tasking and efficiencies must not cause us to lose focus or forget the basics. Take time to listen and not just hear. Education works both ways so be open for new ideas that present themselves. Be safe, you are important to us and others around you.

Next year will be a great year for you and our organization!

Sergeant David Enzbrenner

Sergeant David Enzbrenner's fellow Atchison officers were given the weekend off to grieve the loss of one of their own.

Enzbrenner was helping code enforcement on a nuisance ordinance violation when he was fatally shot.

TBACE President Retires

For those who did not attend the TBACE luncheon meeting on December 6th, (which was AWESOME, thanks again City of Tampa folks!), please be advised that our dear colleague and TBACE President, Carolyn Carrasquillo, is retiring from her post with the City of Largo. Shelby Schaar from the City of Clearwater has agreed to assume the position of TBACE President for the remainder of the term.

Congratulations Carolyn on your retirement.

The Florida Association of Code Enforcement’s Legislative Committee is surveying all the Florida jurisdictions regarding how many code officers they employ, whether they are certified, whether certification is required, and how many from the jurisdiction are members of FACE. Once compiled, this data will be used to help our lobbyist in Tallahassee seek state recognition of our education and training programs.

Please email Sam Sullivan at rss@alachuacounty.us with your response.

The more data we amass, the stronger our argument will be in Tallahassee.

FACE Annual Fee

Save Money. End Confusion.

Beginning October 1, 2011 F.A.C.E. is introducing an easier, simpler fee program. The Annual Fee is due October 1 and must be paid by December 31 to avoid a late fee. Annual Fees are paid through the UCF - Institute of Government and not directly to F.A.C.E. Payment options include: check, money order, or credit cards online or by telephone. Discover, Mastercard or Visa are accepted.

What are the Benefits?
The new Annual Fee is a savings of $5.00 per person over two years. In the past, F.A.C.E. members paid $75.00 over a two year period. With the Annual Fee, there is only one payment of $35.00 per year resulting in a $5.00 savings over two years.
